CTP® Tax Courses

Below are the descriptions of the tax courses that are required in the Chartered Tax Professional certificate program.  An average grade of at least 80% must be attained (our adult students average 90%+).  Most students can complete the courses in 18 months.

Comprehensive Income Tax Course – 60 hours
(Covers all IRS Basic Competency Exam Topics)

This course will enable you to prepare individual tax returns for the general public, including individual taxpayers who operate sole-proprietor businesses. At the completion of the course, you will be able to complete most individual nonbusiness and small business (self-employed/Schedule C) tax returns and research tax issues. This course will provide the educational foundation necessary to successfully pass the IRS Competency Exam (Wage and Nonbusiness Income Form 1040 Examination). Learn more

Advanced I Income Tax Course – 30 hours

This course will provide continuing study in tax preparation for individual taxpayers. At the completion of the course, the student will have the confidence to take on more complex returns and research more complicated tax issues by reinforcing your existing tax knowledge and building on it. Advanced II Income Tax Course – 30 hours

This course will provide continuing study in tax preparation for individual taxpayers. At the completion of the course, the student will be able to complete complex individual tax returns and research very involved tax issues. This course is ideal for veteran tax preparers who are working toward becoming more educated in tax law. Learn more

Small Business I Income Tax Course – 30 hours

This course will provide an understanding and solid foundation for preparing business tax returns and researching issues. This course is designed as an introduction to some of the issues involved in the preparation of tax returns for various forms of business entities, which will give you the information necessary to handle partnerships and corporations. Students should be comfortable with their knowledge of individual tax return preparation before moving on to this course. Learn more

Small Business II Income Tax Course – 30 hours

This course will provide more detailed instruction on an understanding and researching tax issues for various business types. This course is designed as an introduction to some of the issues involved in the preparation of tax returns for various forms of business entities, which will give you the information necessary to handle business returns with knowledge and confidence.
